David McCullough discusses his book, “Mornings on Horseback: The Story of an Extraordinary Family, a Vanished Way of Life, and the Unique Child Who Became Theodore Roosevelt.” McCullough explains the significance of the book title and talks about the death of Roosevelt’s first wife and mother on the same day. He also talks about Roosevelt’s relationship with his siblings and daughter, Alice. McCullough goes on to talk about Roosevelt’s asthma and parents, the influence of individuals during one’s formative years, and his literary influences.
