Photograph caption dated April 27, 1963 reads, "Fire Service Day - for most kids, that is - is next Saturday, but the Los Angeles fire station at 14430 Polk St., Sylmar, opened its doors for a sneak preview. Youngsters scampered over the equipment, climbed a couple of rungs in the ladders, tooted the horns and pretended they were firemen sirening to a fire. And if they were especially good, like Brett Wreesman, Sylmar, they got swooshed up in the air by a real live fire fighter like George Cromell, right. Fire Service Day next Saturday will feature open houses in all fire stations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. P.S. - Grownups can come, too."; See image #00114234 for additional photo in this series.
