Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes
Photograph caption dated June 29, 1962 reads, "Mrs. Baxter Ward hopes to prevent further loss of the trees." The sign on tree reads, "Please, do not chop any more of this tree until you have talked to Mr. Ben Morris - City Hall, Bd. of Puplic [sic] Works." Mrs. Baxter Ward was one of many Tarzana residents protesting the removal of oak trees in order to extend Vanalden Avenue into a new subdivision. The tree in the photograph was thought to be 500 years old.
