Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated May 21, 1948 reads, "A mere slip of an elephant, only 1500 pounds, today attracted Valley youngsters to Griffith Park zood [sic]. Brought by the city at a cost of $4000, the 5-year-old elephant has taken over the vacancy left by the death of Tom Tome, a three-tonner, in August, 1944. The little girl elephant won't get to be a big girl until about seven more years when she is expected to weigh four tons. She was brought from Siam recently and made a short stay in the Valley before becoming municipal property. Because she has just been oiled, the elephant is a shiny black. The color will not be permanent." Keeper Van Yrineo feeds new elephant at Griffith Park Zoo.
