Original photograph has several stains. Hogan “Kid” Bassey was born Okon Asuquo Bassey on June 3, 1932 in Calabar, Nigeria. He was a Nigerian-British boxer and the first man of Nigerian descent to become a world boxing champion. He fought mostly as a featherweight. Bassey died on January 26, 1999. Photograph caption dated December 15, 1958 reads "Hogan (Kid) Bassey, world featherweight champion, faces Ernesto Parra of Mexico in non-title 10-rounder tonight at Hollywood Legion Stadium."
