Williamson Lincoya Smith was born in 1830 to Champness Terry Smith and Mildred Shaw in Bedford County, Virginia. Came to California in 1850 arriving in Placerville, spending some time mining. Sometime after 1852, went to work for the California & Oregon Coast Stage Co., becoming Division Agent in the 1860's (territory covered area north of Sacramento up to Ashland, Oregon). In 1871, his sister, Mrs. Sarah E. Bacon and her youngest child, Mae Helene Bacon moved to California, settling in Redding in 1873. Williamson entered into general merchandise business in 1877 with James A. MCormick and R. M. Saeltzer (McCormick-Saeltzer Company); served as director of Bank of Northern California. Died in 1902.
