Photograph article dated July 11, 1962 partially reads, "Businessmen along Laurel Canyon Blvd. in North Hollywood are fighting a battle for survival. The businessmen say unless the city finds a way to bring through traffic back to the blocked-off boulevard, they may die on the vine, losing their entire investment. Laurel Canyon has been shut to through traffic between Hart and Valerio Sts. since April 30, when construction was started on a $4 million grade separation at the intersection of Laurel Canyon Blvd, Sherman Way and the Southern Pacific railroad tracks... Bill Williams, owner of Williams Laurel Way Liquors, 7050 Laurel Canyon Blvd., claims his business has dropped about 50 per cent and he has had to lay off three employes [sic]... Williams said his biggest complaint is that the city did not plan a bypass to the area when it drew up plans for the grade separation." Photograph caption reads, "Store owner Williams waits - Construction has hindered access to store."
