Description
Juan Ignacio Alviso, who arrived in California in 1776 with the Anza expedition, was an important figure in the history of Mission Santa Clara. He was the foreman during the construction of the fifth Mission compound as well as the government’s administrator for Mission Santa Clara in the years 1840-1842. Alviso presented his will to the notary of Mission Santa Clara in 1848, bequeathing to his family his Mission Santa Clara house, hundreds of livestock, as well as his extensive ranch Rincón de los Esteros (granted to Alviso by governor Alvarado).
