Description
Hand-drawn map of emigrant road over the Donner Pass, accompanied by black and white photographs with captions/citations on index cards. Photographs are individually framed with hand-cut pieces of wood, tacked into place. The collage of map and photographs is believed to have been created from an original map (1924-1932) by Peter M. Weddell, who navigated and remarked the Emigrant trail up until death in 1952. The photographs appear to feature Clyde Arbuckle, and were likely taken circa 1977 when the Argonauts hiked the trail. At the time, they commented on its desecration (see Patricia Loomis Papers). An article about Weddell and his research on the emigrant trail was published in Overland Journal for Fall 2016, by Marshall Fey. A copy is available in HSJ's biographical files.
