Description
Image of American actor Thomas W. Keene dressed in a suit of armor as King Richard III and holding a sword, with a battle scene in the background; printed date information for performances beginning on January 12, [1885], at the Boston Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts; the poster advertises the tragedy "Richard III" written by William Shakespeare.
Probable date based on date of newspaper article advertising the performance: “A grand revival of Shakespeare’s tragedy, ‘Richard III,’ is to be the event of the week at the Boston Theatre. Thomas W. Keene, the young and successful tragic star … Mr. Keene’s engagement at the Boston is to be for the coming week only.” (“Tom Keene at the Boston—‘Richard III.’ In the Boston Globe, 11 January 1885, page 10). "W. J. Morgan & Co. / Lith. Cleveland, O."--text, lower right of image. "Boston Theatre / One Week, / Commencing / Jan. 12"--text, bottom margin centered.
