Description
Photograph of houses in the pueblo of Walpi (Walpai), with an outdoor fireplace, Arizona, ca.1898. The houses are three-story interconnected structures of adobe and stone accessed via exterior ladders. Clusters of drying vegetables hang from the second floor walls. One child leaning against a ledge around the bottom of one dwelling looks up to another child on the second floor. A third child sits in the doorway next to a sleeping dog.
