Description
A view of drilling tools stored on the toolhouse rack. The objects in the immediate center foreground are called "subs" and are used to join together joints of pipe which have different type threads. The objects in the center with curved bails are called lifting nipples and are screwed into the end of threaded pipe for easier means of handling or lifting the pipe. The round objects which look like drums are blowout preventer rubbers, and when used inside of the blowout preventers, expand to control the pressure in the well. Other odds and ends of material in this picture include the gate valves shown in the background and the large reel in which is spooled the 1.25 inch steel cable that is used like a rope in a block and tackle for hoisting the heavy loads encountered in drilling a well.
