Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated April 20, 1963 partially reads, "An old adage "One picture is worth a thousand words," takes on special meaning when the Rev. Gerald W. Squyres commands the pulpit. Using only pieces of fluorescent chalk and a blackboard, a Bible and his own forceful voice, the 35-year-old pastor of Lancaster's First Southern Baptist Church, delivers a stirring "soul-searching" illustrated sermon to his audience. Mr. Squyres, who previously sketched mostly for his own amusement, found his audiences more receptive to illustrated messages."
