Description
"Dr. Lee de Forest, who will be 79 this month, shows his latest invention to Dr. Robert Millikan of CalTech. His problem was to turn heat directly into electricity. This is done by pumping the air out of the metal pot, then a 5 inch disk is heated to incandescance to throw off electrons. The idea resembles the common vacuum tube invented by Dr. de Forest but would require no outside voltage to accelerate electrons."
