Photograph of the west side of the Mercantile Arcade Building, Spring Street, looking north from Sixth Street, Los Angeles, 11 May 1929 (previously identified as the east side of Broadway between Fifth Street and Sixth Street). The Arcade Building is the large building at center, containing stores such as Leighton's Coffee Shop and The Owl Drug Company. Just beyond the Arcade is The Alexandria, a hotel on the corner of Spring Street and Fifth Street. At right is a sign for Security Trust and Savings Bank. "Broadway-Spring Arcade Building, Spring Street entrance, sale of which for $6,500,000 was revealed yesterday." -- Examiner clipping attached to verso, dated 11 May 1929. Streetscape.
