Composite group portrait in front of California flag. Plaque on left side of flag reads, "The Associated Pioneers of the Territorial Days of California Headquarters New York." Plaque on right side of flag reads, "Gen'l John A. Sutter Sutter's Fort Nueva Helvetia 1846 The Pioneer's Friend." (The Bancroft Library also holds this image in their collection). An article in The Pioneer newspaper April 15, 1878 issue describes this portrait in detail. Individuals are numbered, with identifying names listed below and the year they came to California. John A.
