Description
The photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on October 5, 1971 states: "Residents of Northern California's valley areas have been basking under a warm sun as the season lapses reluctantly into Indian summer. The situation has been different in the mountain areas in the northeast section of the state, however, where a recent storm dumped up to 40 inches of snow at the higher elevations. Stately Lassen Peak in Lassen Volcanic National Park displays its new white coat (subject photo), while ranchers in Modoc County found it necessary to ride the meadow range lands to round up cattle forced from the mountains."
