Mr. Lyding demonstrating the ease with which one man can care for 3000 hens at Rio Linda under Lyding System, with a cash income of $25 per day and up -- view 4 (2016-3440). Mr. Lyding with chicken -- view 5 (2016-3441). Mr. Lyding demonstrating the simplicity and ease of operation of a Lyding Poultry House, which any man can build for himself. We furnish Mr. Lyding's advice, counsel and supervision without charge.
Originally a Mexican land grant, Rancho del Paso, this area passed through series of owners beginning in 1844. Was sold in 1910 to Sacramento Valley Colonization Company for subdivision. Subdivided and offered for sale by Sacramento Suburban Fruit Lands Co. under the name, Rio Linda Poultry and Orchard District.
Born in Denmark in 1865 to Nils Rasnussen and Karoline Hansdatter; came to America in 1880's with aunt; worked his way across country, settling in Illinois and evenually Reno area; married Ms. Hannah Waller in 1892; joined in gold rush to the Klondyke in 1896, returning in 1902. In 1906 moved to Sebastopol, California where entered the poultry business; helped organize several poultry associations including Rio Linda Poultry Producers' Association of which he was President; worked as poultry advisor for the Sacramento Suburban Fruit Lands Company beginning in 1919 in Rio Linda. Died in 1942.
