Description
Microphone mouthpiece and button-diaphragm assembly; base missing. Has been fixed to a circular piece of wood, painted black, and installed in a replica of the original KQW transmitter with water tubes attached. May have been created and used by Charles Herrold. The original Foothill Electronics Museum accession worksheet reads: "Carbon microphone, water cooled. Mfgr. unknown. The basic assembly seems to be in excellent condition, but case missing. Microphone button-diaphragm assembly with mouthpiece. Uses 6 carbon buttons in parallel to carry six times the current; water cooled because of the heavy current carried. Appears to be factory made. 1910 or so. (Button assembly and diaphragm exposed and makes good cut-away exhibit.)"
