Description
Librarian Leslie E. Bliss (1889-1977) was hired in 1915 to help catalog the private library of Henry E. Huntington in New York. A graduate of Colgate University and the New York State Library School, he became part of the first team of Huntington catalogers, moving with the library to San Marino, California in 1920. In 1926, he became the Huntington’s head librarian, a position he held until his retirement in 1958. The oral history recounts Bliss’s early employment years in New York, his recollections of Henry and Arabella Huntington, and a discussion of Huntington’s particular book interests.
