Photograph caption dated October 24, 1981 reads, "Patricia Thompson has 'never been too hot about flying,' says here husband, Bob, and yesterday morning her fears were confirmed. En route to San Luis Obispo from Long Beach, the Cerritos couple's Beechcraft Bonanza developed engine trouble, reported Torrance police officer Steve Badenoch. After circling Torrance Airport twice in dense fog, the plane lost all power and was forced down. Skidding across the runway, the craft crashed into four parked planes. Bob and their two dogs walked away with nary a scratch. He's been flying for 15 years and says he can't wait to get back up in the air in a new plane. Patricia, holding dog Grufus, suffered only a cut knee, but Bob says, 'they'll have to put a gun to her head to get her to fly."
