Description: Khe Sanh, South Vietnam: Communist Pathet Lao said 2/1 that the U.S. and its allies are massing 'tens of thousands of Saigon and U.S. troops' in northern part of South Vietnam around Khe Sanh near the Laotian border. Widespread speculation indicates a South Vietnamese strike into Laos, with strong U.S. air support, to cut the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The Khe Sanh air strip, shown in a 1968 file photo, runs east southeast (bottom of photo) to west northwest. The stronghold of Khe Sanh lies directly across the easiest infiltration route into South Vietnam.
