The 4th Massachusetts regiment was created on January 1, 1777 and served until November 3, 1783, under command of Colonel William Shepard (Jan. 1, 1777 - Jan. 1, 1783) and Colonel Henry Jackson (Jan. 1, 1783 - Nov. 3, 1783).
