Description
Several men and women snow-shoeing/skating in snowy meadow at Yosemite. A large building and copse of trees are in the background. Written on back: "Skating area -- pond (frozen with good ice) back of the Village & in the area of a church -- not the building at left. Xmas 1922,Yosemite". Photo is one of several found in an envelope from Welch family labeled: "Snaps of stays in Yosemite -- Summer 1919 Xmas 1922 -- J.R., Mrs., Frances & Ione spent almost a week at the Sentinal Hotel on the Merced River. It was the first time Yosemite was open to the public in the winter. Train from S. J. to Merced, & to El Portal - then truck-like heavy bus on to the Hotel."
