Description
"Brickmaking. Lump of clay ready for moulding. The Moulder." Outdoor portrait of an indigenous worker fashioning bricks using a mould. A brick tilery was first built in Blantyre in 1882, and work began training African men to become bricklayers. Blantyre, Nyasaland [Malawi] was an industrial mission which developed skills such as carpentry and bricklaying, and bricks were necessary to construct the many mission buildings, including the renowned St Michael and All Angels church.
