Description
Charles "Slim" Lindbergh and Navigator Anne Murrow Lindbergh in their first electrically heated flying suits just prior to take off in their open cockpit Lockheed "Sirius" at Glendale's Grand Central Air Terminal. Flying at 14,000 feet they set a transcontinental record of 14 hours and 46 minutes to New York. At the time they were expecting their first child, the boy who was kidnapped.
Note with photograph: Black bird with orange wings --four decades ago Pilot Charles "Slim" Lindbergh, and Navigator Anne Morrow Lindbergh, were togged out in specially made electrically heated flight suits, ready to climb into the cockpits of their Lockheed "Sirius" at Glendale's Grand Central Air Terminal. They were to soar to 14,000 feet and streak for Wichita and New York in the time of 14 hours and 46 minutes -- a long cold flight. Photo by Homer B. Miller.
