Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes
Bolton Hall, built in 1913, was originally used as a community center for the Utopian community of Los Terrenitos. From 1920 until 1957, it was used as an American Legion hall, the San Fernando Valley's second public library, Tujunga City Hall, and a jail. The building sat vacant while the battle to preserve it lasted for more than twenty years. Since 1980, Bolton Hall has been operated by the Little Landers Historical Society as a local history museum. It is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural monument and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (No. 71000159).
First photograph caption dated March 16, 1950 reads "Once a meeting place for the community of Tujunga, the city hall, above, constructed of native stone serves a fast growing foothill area."; Second photograph caption dated April 16, 1957 reads "Old Tujunga City Hall, known as Bolton Hall in pioneer days, stands empty and unused since it was vacated by city officials moving to new municipal building and Chamber of Commerce which found new quarters. Citizens' groups are fighting to save historic building from sale."; See images #00135082-#00135083 and #00032402 for all photos in this series.
