Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989 Seabiscuit (right), training with stable-mate Kayak II. Seabiscuit's career started poorly; in his first 35 races, he won five times. But under a new owner (Charles Howard), trainer (Tom Smith), and jockey (Johnny "Red" Pollard), the grand-son of Man O' War set 16 track records, won nearly a half-million dollars, and beat Triple Crown winner War Admiral in a dramatic match race. Photo dated: February 6, 1940.
