Photograph was edited for publication purposes. The Wayside Honor Rancho was renamed The Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center in 1983. Photograph caption dated September 14, 1959 reads "'Little Quentin.' Maximum security section of ranch houses 900 prisoners who can't be trusted in freedom of ranch. Others come to 'max' for classification before transfer to other institutions. County also keeps prisoners there who are wanted for prosecution on another offense elsewhere when term is up. It was expanded in 1957." The prison is at 29310 The Old Road in Castaic. See images 00154656 through 00154664 for all photos in this series.
