Description
Born 12 April 1820 in New York State, Martin Britton was a horticulturalist who moved his family to Santa Clara County in 1863 on account of his ailing health. Possessing a small capital of only $100 he purchased a small tract of land and became a successful fruit grower. Able to raise the stock of his orchard, his widow and son took ownership of it upon his death in April 1886. Illustration from "Pen Pictures From the 'Garden of the World'"
