Description
Handwritten notation: "tenant evacuated by U.S. Gov't May 1, 1942" refers to the mass removal ("evacuation") of persons of Japanese ancestry from the West Coast as directed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Executive Order 9066. Original lease describes agreement beginning January 2, 1941, ending June 30, 1943 for six acres owned by Rancho San Pedro with a yearly rent of $120. Signatures include Hamilton H. Cotton, Carson Estate Company and lessee. Cancellation of land lease is reiterated at the bottom of the second page. Hand written payment records are also located at the bottom of the second page.
