A row of elephants from the Ringling Bros. Circus are shown thundering over downtown pavement along Broadway heading toward 3rd St., in an old-fashioned circus parade the like of which the city hadn't seen for many years. The elephants walk past large buildings as handlers wearing black shirts and white hats ride atop, keeping them in a single-file line. Throngs turned out to thrill to the horse-drawn gaily-colored wagons with their cargoes of wild beasts seen at the back of the herd of pachyderm. Founded in 1883 by five Ringling brothers, the circus was originally named The Ringling Brothers Carnival of Fun; in 1919 Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey combined to form Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Combined Shows. Today, it is known simply as The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and their self-proclaimed trademarked slogan is: "The Greatest Show on Earth". Although there are several commercial buildings visible across the street, the two identifiable buildings toward the right of the photo are Jacoby Bros., a clothing house, and J. R. Lane Dry Goods Co.
