Photograph article dated February 13, 1965 partially reads, "Burbank physician Dr. Colin Hutchison was in Baja California today to start his search for two Valley youths missing on the desolate peninsula for more than seven months. Hutchison and his traveling companion, insurance salesman Jim Mooney, left their adjacent hillside homes yesterday. The jeep they took was packed to the roof. Its array of supplies and tools showed elaborate planning - the kind of forethought Harold Dean Slaght, 19, of Santa Susana, and Steven Bunch, then 17, of Canoga Park, displayed last June 21." The search for the missing young men was ended on April 19, 1965 - nine months after their disappearance. While their loaded red pickup truck was located on a lonely road in the Sierra Vizcaino Desert about 350 miles south of Tijuana, there was no trace of the vanished travelers. Consensus was that the boys developed motor trouble and went off into the desert to seek help, only to disappear without a trace.
