The wharf itself is seen up-close, extending from the left side of the photograph, with a man and a woman walking side by side at center and people leaning against the guard rails on either side. The surf and beachgoers enjoying the sand can be seen on either side of this, with the city spreading out behind them across the horizon, a large, two-story building just left of the pier brandishing two flags on its roof. A mother and her children can be seen playing in the water in the distance to the right.
