Photograph caption dated July 7, 1956 reads "Alf Engen, 16 times U.S. ski champion and former Olympic coach, makes jump on brand-new plastic snow at Mt. Baldy. Exhibition jumping will take place at the famed winter sports area every Saturday and Sunday through autumn on the 'summer snow.'"
