Description
This photograph shows the Alameda Theater (328 L Street), Hong Kong Cafe (320 L Street), and Mrs. Mary Dulay, Notary Public (326 L Street). It was taken in 1961 which was the theater's last year of operation. The Alameda was originally the Nippon Theater and showed Asian movies to it's largely Japanese audience from before World War I to just after World War II, when this neighborhood changed drastically. A man with a ladder may be preparing to change the names on the marquee advertising the headliners. Note the older, exposed wall of the theater above the "Notary Public Income Tax" sign.
