In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. B, leaf 36.
Another bird's eye view of 2 1/2 city blocks bordered by a broad street on the left; the 2 1/2 city blocks are in the middle ground; in the foreground a long, low roofed building protrudes into the photo from the left; across from the end of the long building are empty lots and then a fence bordred area with two shacks on one side and two small structures on the inside; the city blocks are covered with structures.
Also have negative no. #22,776 (4 x 5 in.)
Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento.
Picture taken in 1868 "from the Capitol building which was in the course of construction .....Old Pavilion at 6th & M street is shown in picture, erected in 1859....Old Court House is very plainly seen in picture, 7th & I street...."
