Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. Larry Walker was a retired Caltrans employee who had been requested by District 4 to oversee the construction of a temporary mobile home park in Watsonville to house families displaced by the earthquake. In this interview Larry discusses the amount of work required to create an area suitable for erecting the FEMA trailers and the obstacles, such as weather conditions and time constraints, encountered during the process.
