Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. James Siebe was a Senior Transportation Engineer at the time of the earthquake. In this interview James recounts how we was responsible in organizing Emergency Contracts to repair damaged freeways, roads, and facilities, particularly at the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge Toll Plaza, and in San Rafael. His interview includes technical reflections of emergency repair work such as AC application and the difficulties faced by Caltrans and contractors as they responded to the damage caused by the earthquake and issues of communication.
