Description
The Elsie M. Castner Oral History Project was made possible by grants from the estates of Robert F. Cocklin, Ruth Castner Cocklin and others. The Dixon Public Library undertook this project in 1998 with the assistance of Chris Castaneda from CSU, Sacramento. The oral history of long-time resident Jack Phillips is a record of his memories about growing up in rural Dixon, CA. His stories relate to the economic development of agriculture and ranching in early California communities. Jack Phillips' great-grandfather, Judge John Currey, arrived in California during the Gold Rush in 1849. He moved to Dixon in 1906 with his family to work on the ranch land he had previously acquired. Note on original container: Jack Phillips (Charlene) July 18, 1998 Dixon CA Interviewer Terry Cook
