Description
1 column, 7 lines, written on recto along the fibers. Regular cursive with a slight slant to the right. Margins: top, 2 cm.; left, 1.8 cm.; bottom, 10 cm. On verso: "T 421" in black ink (twice) Short rescript (written answer) of the Emperor Gordian, directing that failure to register children should not deprive them of their right to legitimacy. The text is dated to the 8th day of the Ides of July (8 July) of the consulship of Iulius Gordianus and Iulius Aviola (289), hence the reference to the Emperor (d. 244) as "deified." The papyrus was found in a bundle with P.Tebt. 319, 326, 335, 378, 406, and 588. In Greek.
