1989-1268. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 32. Close up view of the side of one street; cars parked in front of sidewalk and a car moving out of the photo; somewhat as a focus is a three story building with a sign above on the first floor advertising "typewriters", 6 vertical windows on the second floor with curved lintels above windows & 8 windows on 3rd floor; 3rd floor windows are grouped with 3 on each side of a central 2 between which is a blocky pillaster; a roofcomb on the roof emphasizes the 2 windows; next to this building is another narrow building whose facade is distinguished by a broken pediment above 3 tall windows on the 2nd floor. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Center bldg., now Vermont Rooms ', Erected in 1861. Formally known as 'New Crescent City Hotel' 181' J st. Once the residence of T.D. Judah, 'chief engineer.' 'Sacramento Valley Railroad'."
