Regimental orderly book kept by Lieutenant John Whiting from April 17 to June 20, 1782. John Bailey's regiment, subsequently numbered the 2nd Massachusetts, was created November 1, 1776 and served until November 3, 1783 when it was discharged. From January 1, 1781 to November 3, 1783, the regiment was under command of Lieutenant Colonel Ebenezer Sprout. The regiment was part of the brigade of John Paterson and was stationed at West Point.
