Description
"These pears are most delicious when ripened at living room temperature until they begin to soften slightly" Grown and packed by V. T. McCurdy, Santa Clara, California. V. T. McCurdy was born in Missouri in 1870. In 1912 he purchased the 55 acre ranch known to early settlers as the "Captain Senate Rancho", near Winchester & Forest Avenues, a part of the old Bascom estate. Forty-five acres were devoted to the planting of pear and apple trees. He established a packing house where he packed under the McCurdy label. He shipped throughout the United States and exported to Cuba, New Zealand, South America and Canada. Mr. McCurdy sold part of his orchard land in 1952 to O'Connor Hospital for the site of a new medical building. He died in 1953.
