Regimental orderly books consisting of general, brigade, and regimental orders, proceedings of courts martial, etc. The first volume covers the period from March 31 to Sept. 1. The Fourth Pennsylvania Battalion was organized 2 January - 11 February 1776 at Chester to consist of 8 companies from Chester, Bucks and Lancaster Counties. The regiment was commanded by Anthony Wayne. It was assigned to the Middle Department (Feb. 27 - Mar. 15), Canadian Department (Mar. 15- July 2), and Northern Department (July 2 - Nov. 18) and took part in the Canadian invasion. Over the winter of 1776-1777 it was reorganized as as the 5th Pennsylvania Regiment
