Description
Four vintage 1946 Piper aircraft took off this morning from Phoenix Field in Fair Oaks on a warmup flight for a barnstorming cross-country Bicentennial flight. The actual flight will begin Saturday and is slated to end in York, PA, four or five days later. Making the flight will be Sacramentans Don W. Horton and his son Robby, Phillip Gebhardt and his son Mark, Thad Shelnut, Fred Bujack and Darold Kaestner. The four planes, three J3 Piper Cubs and an L-4 military version, plan stops in Nevada, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, and Ohio before reaching the destination.
