Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. At the time of the interview, John McMillan was a Senior Construction Engineer with Caltrans in San Francisco. In this interview he describes his personal earthquake experience and how it was like working at 150 Oak Street afterwards. Mc Millan the first few days after the earthquake assisted with the status reports and acted as a liaison on Construction related matters. He also tried to keep projects going by processing lane closures through Highway Operations. He also shares his experience working with contractors during this time.
