Description
Photograph of a view of the Mission San Gabriel, [s.d.]. Here stands the east entrance of Mission San Gabriel Arcangel, established in 1771 by the Franciscan Fathers and in operation since. Father Raymond, one of the five Claretian brothers who now operate the mission is seen by the door. The arched doors of the mission are closed as they sit beneath an arched opening in the wall, housing the statue of a saint. Right of this, two rectangular openings sit on the mission wall, beneath which a man with a book sits. An old stair leads up to a doorway farther down, while in the foreground a bell-shaped lamp stands, casting its shadow on the paved sidewalk.
