Description
Trotting in a row are four riders and horses in this circa 1930 photograph. Sacramento's position in the Central Valley made it a popular venue for rodeo goers. During the 1930s, 40s and 50s, Sacramento saw the Barmby Ranch Rodeo, near Perkins, the Leo Carillo's World Championship Rodeo at Sacramento Junior College, and the World Champions Cowboy Contest at the California State Fairgrounds. The flag holder may be Fred E. McCargar of Salinas, who was heavily involved in the Rodeo Cowboy Association. McCargar died in 1954
