Photograph caption dated December 4, 1961 reads "These three outstanding prep backs from the Valley will be seen in action tomorrow in first round games of the 1961 Los Angeles city high school football playoffs. Above, Bill Halkyard (pictured), Birmingham High and teammate Doyle Hanchera will be packing mail against South Gate at Oxy. Right, Buddy DiDonato (No. 13), Monroe's fine quarterback, will be called upon to do the same against Manual Arts at Santa Monica City College." Birmingham High School is in Van Nuys.
